He Was First

The story mainly talks about Jackie Robinson and the struggles he had to face as he became the first African American to play in the major-league baseball . Before April 15, 1947 only whites were allowed to play baseball, but Jackie Robinson changed the way society was that day. He was very talented, and showed lots of character but that alone wasn’t enough for people to accept him. As a oncoming star he faced many trail and tribulations. He tried out for the football team but didn’t make it because of discrimination. When he was chosen to play for the Brooklyn dodgers things seem to get even worse for him instead of better. His team mates didn’t respect him, he wasn’t allowed to stay in the same hotel as them, and other players on the opposing team even pointed their bats at him making machine gun sounds at him. Although he faced many problems he kept his cool and never responded to anything negative that came at him, which showed to everyone how much character he had. After one of his white team mates stood up for him things started to get better for him. People recognized his talent, character, and passion for baseball, and started to accept him. After that he made way for other African Americans to play baseball like Willie Mays, Ernie Banks, and Henry Aaron.

Effects of the Automobile

Cars have changed society in many ways. It’s made life for man very easy. The first car that was made was created by Henry Ford in 1908; the model was a model T. When this phenomenal creation was invented it changed the world in every aspect. It lowered tax dollars, since there were cars horses were not needed as much which meant people didn’t have to pay other to clean up horse manure anymore. Cars made it possible for people to leave the city and own farms. Seeing as cars were so efficient those same people were able to travel back to the city with ease. Cars even changed the way houses were built. Given that horses were no longer needed stables was not needed as well. Therefore instead of having stables at your house, you had a garage to keep your car in. Cars even changed the role women in society, since cars required skill not strength women were able to drive to. In closing cars has helped society back then and still is helping society now.

The Life of the Urban Working Class

The working class have changed in various ways compared to how it use to be a couple of centuries ago. We now work in crowded cities, while back then people worked in the countryside. The working class back then was divided into three major categories skill, wages, and workplace. If you were a worker that was skilled you were in pretty good shape. A skilled worker would have the best wage, benefits, and a great workplace. Even as the unskilled worker would have the total opposite. Skilled workers would work in crafts, and cabinetmaking. They were able to afford shelter, food, clothing, and anything else you needed during that time. While a unskilled worked was just having trouble finding the next meal for their family. As a unskilled worker life was very hard. Families lived in apartments with just one room, women resorted to temporary prostitution and even children had to work. Men, children, and women that didn’t prostitute worked long work days that were up to 14 hours. They worked in factories were conditions were very dangerous. Machines were unfenced, textile mills remained unventilated, which later resulted to bits of material entering in workers’ lungs making them very ill. For young workers it was even worst, the long hours they worked caused them to have spinal curvature, varicose veins, and fallen arches. Although they suffered a lot they sought out various ways to better there life. Many decided to try to make a new life in Manchester. By the mid-century things begun to get a lot better.

Bad Managers

In any work place you go to you are guaranteed to find at least one of these bad managers. The incompetent, spineless, perfectionists, and the clueless. The incompetent manager is the one that promotes you when your doing a good job. But demotes you or even fires you soon as when he/she feels like your doing a bad. Some managers are like that because they suffer from a psychological defect. Signs of this sickness are denial, playing it by the numbers, and delaying tactics. In many cases manager that are in denial insist that they don’t have problems. Spineless managers are the type of managers that just doesn’t set any limits. They do things like avoid issues, and deny problems. They do not voice there opinions, and feel very insecure about there self. Perfectionist managers always ask detail question that you really can’t answer. They make unreasonable demands, when you don’t complete there task. And even scream at people while they bang theirs fists on there desk. Lastly you have the clueless manager that basically is unpredictable and doesn’t know anything that’s going on. In many cases your likely to get one these managers in a place you work, you just have to find away to deal with it in a constructive way.

Keys to College Success

There are many things you could do to be successful in college. Such as managing your time, attending class and taking notes, reading your textbook in an organized way, and finally taking responsibility for your studies . If you do these four key things you are guaranteed to graduate from college with flying colors. When managing your time you must use your time very wisely. For instance if you had sports, school, and work you would have to manage all those things in your life in a orderly fashion. The best way would be to make a to do list so you don’t forget anything, or to make your own daily or weekly schedule . Attending your classes and taking notes are very important as well. By attending your classes you will be able to hear your professor’s lecture and take good notes. The reason why this is very vital is because when your professor lectures he/ she talks about all the key things for the class that may not be in the book. So if your absent from class you’ve missed a lot of information. On the other hand reading your textbook in an organized way is another key that is a big part of your college academic life. Basically reading your text book in a organized way is reading the book, highlighting the keys points, taking notes, studying, understanding, and comprehending. As a final point taking responsibility for your studies is the last key. Its essentially just being very proactive with school work.
